How Much Paid Holiday Are My People Entitled To?

How much paid holiday you give your people is a decision for you. But there is a minimum that every employer must offer, although you can offer more. So what is that minimum?

  • Under UK law, all workers are entitled to 5.6 weeks paid holiday (whether they are full time, part time or on a zero-hours contract)
  • The 5.6 weeks is made up of 20 days’ leave and 8 days to cover bank holidays.
  • Leave is pro-rata’d for part time workers
  • Workers don’t have to take their bank holiday leave on a bank holiday. If you need them to work a bank holiday, they keep the leave entitlement to use at another time
  • Leave begins to accrue immediately (i.e. there’s no qualifying period) and continues to accrue even when they are sick, on probation or on parental leave

Do you have a question about how we manage leave on your payroll? Just get in touch.
